Statement of Purpose

DWAA is dedicated to educating business and information technology professionals about the strategies, techniques, and tools required to successfully design, build, and maintain data warehousing implementations, and also to the advancement of data warehousing research, knowledge transfer, and the professional development of its members. DWAA is vendor independent. DWAA is a national organisation currently active in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland

Non-profit Organisation

DWAA exists solely for the benefit of its members. DWAA is run by a committee consisting of members elected by members. All committee members provide their time and expertise on a voluntary basis. DWAA’s membership fees are solely for the purpose of meeting the costs of the benefits to the members. DWAA provides a vibrant Australian Data Warehousing forum where members get out of the organisation what they put into it.


Primary Objectives

The primary objectives of DWAA are to:
- Provide a forum for Australian experience and research
- Arrange regular professional meetings to discuss specific data warehousing topics
- Facilitate the delivery of high-quality training in Australia


Secondary objectives

The Secondary objectives of DWAA include:
- Establish a quantifiable reference standard for Data Warehousing Consultants.
- Provide a community environment where networking can open doors to top quality consultants for employers or clients, and where consultants can find prospective job opportunities.
- Provide a forum for relevant vendors to become exposed to the people who would find interest in their products and solutions, and who may have the potential to leverage them from time to time.
- Chair professional conferences and seminars by invitation where appropriate.


Approach

The approach DWAA takes to achieving its objectives is to:
- Deliver quarterly two-hour presentation seminars consisting of two presentations from the Data Warehousing community together with an update on DWAA activities and to facilitate networking opportunities. These are held in each of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
- Create an annual conference with a range of presentations on various Data Warehousing topics and the presence of companies with offerings for those wishing to look at them.
- Encourage research on Data Warehousing topics at educational institutes.
- Provide training courses to professionals through DWAA constructed courses or special arrangements for - DWAA members made with training vendors.
- Arrange opportunistic special events when suitable speakers are available.


Facilitation

Our approach is facilitated in part by:
- A strong and financially viable association with consistent growth in annual membership.
- Affiliation with other professional bodies in a similar field of endeavour.
- A focus on provision of a community environment for networking.
- Being recognised in the IT industry as a professional association and as an authority on Data Warehousing methods and techniques.
- Promotional activities to members and the general public on DWAA activities and developments.
- DWAA promotional activities through professional magazines.
- Increasing public awareness through the publication of Data Warehousing methods in Journals and other professional magazines (i.e. Accounting and IT bodies).
- Linking to the DWAA web site by other professional bodies.
